ToolWatch Cellular:
Capture Critical Data on the Jobsite with Your Nextel® Phone and Scanner
Remote data connection in the field through a cell phone infrastructure empowers mobile and on-the-go personnel with a reliable method of capturing information about tools, equipment and materials. By outfitting their Nextel cell phone with a Motorola AC25 bar code scanner, mobile workers can leverage the power of the Nextel data network and ToolWatch software to track construction resource transactions in real time—regardless of where these transactions take place.
This integrated and reliable solution results in:
- Fast access to your ToolWatch application and data, anywhere and anytime
- Increased productivity where tool and material transactions take place
- Reduced paperwork
- Improved data accuracy
- Smarter business decisions
- Improved field performance
- Faster response to customer needs
Practical Uses of ToolWatch Cellular
Check-In / Check-Out
Check-In and Check-Out functionality is ideal for "turn-around" or "shutdown" project scenarios. In these situations, you often have a limited footprint on the jobsite. You may also have a short amount of time in which to complete the project and a limited infrastructure to support your operations. And, in some cases, you don't even have a data network or wireless connectivity.
Through a Nextel® phone, an attachable scanning device and Nextel's data infrastructure, ToolWatch Cellular enables tool crib personnel to manage construction resources in remote locations. They can quickly check in and check out items, drive accountability—even print receipts on the spot with a BlueTooth® printer strapped to the belt of the tool crib attendant (BlueTooth® portable printer will be available in Q2 2007).
Field Service Materials
For companies that perform field-service work, tracking inventory in service trucks involves a great deal of paperwork. Not only does this consume a technician's valuable time, but manual tracking is also error-prone.
ToolWatch cellular helps make field service personnel more efficient while improving transaction accuracy. Instead of manually recording inventory transactions, field techs use their Nextel cell phones to key in the customer or job number. As they scan parts off their truck with their phone, each part used is immediately forwarded to the ToolWatch system so that the customer is quickly and accurately billed.
The system also automatically depletes inventory levels, enabling warehouse personnel to have the correct replenishment items already staged as trucks return from the field.
Tool Tracking in Small Jobsites
Using a scanner-outfitted Nextel cellular phone, delivery or field personnel can periodically inventory tools and materials stored in small jobsites or wherever an active tool management infrastructure is not in place. This provides the warehouse with fast and accurate information about the items that are still in those locations—and items that may have inadvertently landed there.
Besides tools and materials, other important pieces of equipment can also easily be inventoried and updated. For instance, generators, hour meters or other types of instrumentation equipment can be monitored and read. Equipment can be checked for time used and maintenance due. And, in every case, the information is updated in the ToolWatch system in real time, providing warehouse personnel with the information they need to keep that equipment serviced and in good working order.
Transfer of Tools, Equipment and Materials
The Transfer feature enabled by ToolWatch Cellular provides remote or on-the-go users with an easy and efficient way to transfer tools, equipment and materials to and from any warehouse, tool crib, jobsite, truck or employee—anytime, anywhere and with no paperwork.
